Orr Announces Re-election Bid

Cook County Clerk David Orr today officially launched his re-election campaign for Cook County Clerk in 2010. The County Clerk is the chief election authority for one of the largest election jurisdiction in the country, plus handles vital records, tax extention and redemption, and serves as Clerk to the Board of Commissioners.

David Orr annouces re-election bid In announcing his reelection David cited a number of recent accomplishments including:

*Introducing and implementing Early Voting which allows voters to cast their ballots three weeks prior to election
*Creating a Teen Democracy Program which encourages high school students to serve as election judges
*Winning the prestigious Public Sector Industry Award from Microsoft for increasing productivity through the use of technology
*Creating the award winning Geanealogy Online program which allows people all over the world to purchase geaealogy record, while generating new revenue

“We have saved county taxpayers money, made the office more efficient through the use of technology and smarter management practices. I look forwared to continuing to serve the people of Cook County as their Cook County Clerk,” Orr said.

Orr, a former Chicago alderman (1979-1990) served as Vice Mayor under Harold Washington. Following Washington’s death in 1987, Orr briefly took over as mayor and was widely recognized for his strong, sensible and calm leadership during one of the most tumoltuous periods in Chicago’s political history.

Previous to serving as alderman he was as assistant professor of History and Urban Affairs at Mundelein College. Orr lives in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood with his wife Loretta and their four children.

David has won numerous awards for his innovation, technological improvemnets and cost saving measures. Among his awards are, Elected Official of the Year from the National Association of Clerks, Recorders, Elected Officials (NACRC); Illinois Politics’ Distinguished Service Award; honors from the Metropolitan Tenants Organization and Indepentdent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization (IVI-IPO).
